What should I expect after undergoing an otoplasty?

Patients can expect very little discomfort or bruising but may experience a little swelling. Typically, this takes around 10 days to subside but the area may be sensitive for around 3 weeks. Patients may experience slight numbness and this is normal for up to 2-3 months after surgery. The numbness is the reason that people feel very little discomfort after an otoplasty and is why an otoplasty is well tolerated by children.

What about the results? When will I be able to see a difference?

It’s very important that the pressure dressing remains in place for 5-7 days. If not, removing it before this time could increase the risk of infection or even alter the final results. Once you have been back to see Dr Evans to have the dressing removed, you should see an immediate difference. Do bear in mind however that there is likely to be some residual swelling present.
